Welcome to the Show
Welcome and thank you for visiting the web site for Beavers Fantasy Transistor Radio Show. I'm Tom Cat, the toastmaster general, the master of ceremonies, your host with the most of our little radio show which airs on 91.7 fm WSUW located on the campus of the University of Wisconsin Whitewater in beautiful Downtown Whitewater.
The main goal of the show is to entertain and have fun and I think that is just what One Hand Monkey, Mr. Dogdigitty, Walter Max Murrow, The Stomper Room Lady, Percy Dovetonsills, Jake The Alligator Man, Clem Picklehoeffer, Ducky, Goo Goo and Birdie and whoever else stops by have accomplished. Of course the music featured is some of the greatest ever recorded. You will hear a lot of of songs that are familiar, you will probably find yourself singing along. We like to dig into the vault and dust off the records that haven't been played since they first were spun by a fat guy in a mustard stained t-shirt with a greasy beard in an 8 x 8 cell with a stand up microphone and two turntables in a two room building off a dirt road next to a cow pasture.
You will also hear songs which you had forgotten even existed that bring a rush of a gazillion memories with each note. Beavers Fantasy Transistor Radio Show is not your typical "oldies" show. We want the listener to feel as if they have stepped into a capsule and physically, mentally, emotionally and kinetically been transformed into an earlier era. We want the listener to duck and cover and taste the lead in the paint, believe that it takes more than 45 seconds to cook dinner and have to imagine the colors on their tv set.
A bit about the recording process
The shows are originally recorded live from the radio to cassette tape, then transferred onto DVD. The limitations of tapes are unfortunately present, however so is the purity and warmth of analogue.Speaking of the limitations of tape, the tape of "The Year Christmas Went Wrong" had somehow itself gone wrong. About 3/4 of the way through, the tape had somehow reversed itself. I had to painstakingly pull out a quarter of the tape and discovering I had no splicing tape, repaired it with a pair of scissors and a band-aid. One Hand Monkey was no help at all.
I don't want to discourage you from downloading Beavers Fantasy Transistor Radio Show copyrighted performances. In fact I wish to encourage you to download the shows onto CD, DVD, ipod, reel to reel tape, long playing album or whatever medium you wish and take Beavers Fantasy Transistor Radio Show every where you go. I just have two requests of you; tell everyone you meet about the show and website and secondly, please don't steal my jokes. You can listen to Beavers Fantasy Transistor Radio Show in almost any setting, while doing house cleaning, driving to Raul's Ramen Restaurant, or even working or surfing on your computer at home or work. What I feel is the ideal way to listen to the show however is to dim the lights low, light an incense stick, pour a steamy hot cup of Latter Day Coffee, grab a Spud Brand Beer from the fridge, smoke a big banana, chant the Hare Krishna mantra, recline with your eyes closed, pair of stereo headphones glued to your ears, press play and BLAST OFF!!!
